THE JOB-SEEKERS’ QUEST:
Employment turnover is a continuum in which both recruiters and job-seekers are consistent. Recruiters adopt different recruiting hacks to select the best talent from the pool. This in turn imposes severe challenges on the job-seekers to give their best performances to create lasting impressions besides appealing the interviewers. Following our recent job-skills session, here we bring some of the best interview tips that can make your interview an easy-going one.
Interview tips – 1/5 – PREPARE:
Preparation or planning is key to every endeavour. Preparation for an interview is often considered to be daunting, probably this is due to poor preparation. Below we list out some key factors which a job-seeker should actually prepare for.
The prospective company:
Remember, interview is where you are selling yourself. In order to place yourself as a best fit, it is first important to know where you fit. So do some research bout the company you are planning to apply for and trends in the sector or industry where your potential company operates in.
Yes, JDs are often prescribed in the vacancy posting. Read them carefully and understand them as closely as possible. It is always worth to discuss the unclear terms or requirements with peers. One can also call the company directly to seek more clarification.
Are you applying for a specific job just because you need it or out of interest? Are you aware of the body language you ought to have whilst you attend an interview? Maintaining right posture, expressions and smile are some of the body languages which display your confidence level whilst attending an interview. Hence, one of the important interview tips will be to prepare yourself on it.
Interview Tips – 2/5- PROMOTE:
In order to remain uniquely appealing, it is important that you promote yourself well. Here maintaining a line between selling and exaggerating is important. Recruiters are smart enough to judge you by comparing what you have told about yourself in the CV to what you are telling in the interview.
Let me give an example here:
One common question hiring manager put forward is: ‘Why should we hire you’
The challenge here is talking about yourself. Candidates often tend to be more generic and more focussed on employer-benefits while answering this. However, you should realize that this is a great opportunity to sell yourself. So let you highlight be on your traits and how you can be a problem solver rather than typical response such as:
‘I am hardworking and able to work under pressure’ , instead
‘My prior experience has trained me to work calmly under challenging situations, which is what you will look on in handling tough situations. I would not only be a worth investment but also a hub of experiential knowledge for yourselves’.
The above answer is open, displaying confidence, showing your understanding of recruiters’ expectations from you and clearly distinguishing the way you are promoting yourself.

Prioritize on key selling points and try to disclose them as early as possible.
Secondly, make sure that no irrelevant discussions are made or encouraged. By keeping on a win-win discussion, accurate information can be exchanged. For instance avoid expressions like ‘I’ and/ or ‘You’ and focus more on ‘We’.
Thirdly, if you are unsure of what interviewer has asked, feel free to get clarification before responding something out of box. Remaining to the point in clear-cut tone is a great sign of precision.
Interview Tips – 5/5 – POSITIVITY:
Interviewers tend to attack with disappointing questions such as ‘what is your weaknesses or ‘Your past failures’, take it optimistically with a note… ‘Despite failure, I learnt….’; (or) ‘I have been practising to over-come my weaknesses such as….’
Optimism is the key interview tip in 2020. Always remember, every interview attended and every recruiter met is a new learning experience. Although you might not land on your anticipated job, yet you would have learnt something new in terms of dos’ and/or dont’s in an interview.
If at the close of interview, you sense that you are likely to be rejected or if you have faced a tough recruiter, ensure to close the meet on a positive note. Always remember that if you are not selected then it is not that you are incapable, but it is just that the company has found someone more capable than you. So to keep yourself up till you achieve what you want, positivism is a must. We can help you master it, should you need one. Check it now!!!
