HOW FAR HAVE WE MADE TO LIVE WITH COVID-19
Corona – CO-VID 19:
December 2019, marked the beginning of an endless pandemic, Covid-19. None of us would have imagined that we will soon enter a new era of social-distancing. Gone are the times of get togethers at coffee shops, shopping at malls, cinemas’ beach out and parties. Most of us are today stranded wondering if we will ever get into that age back.
Undoubtedly, covid-19 pandemic has taken over the human race, the global efforts, and technological advancements and pushed the economies down. Is it not time to wonder that despite huge achievements, we are still failing to fight back a virus invisible to our naked eyes? People are indeed stressed. What will we do for source of income next? Will the children ever be able to get back to normal school life? Will the life be engulfed into lonesome with most of us stuck only to internet and laptops?
Numerous questions with no means and ends is where all of us are this moment. It is a continued state of mind in such scenario will lead to nowhere but stress, frustration and depression. It is time we realize how to live with CORONA than to fight back with it.
Below I list out a few optimism insights I figured out during this lockdown. I share it with a hope to generate some optimism where all of us could realize and find ways to still live as wholly as possible with what we have left.
Investing in Time:
Lockdown in the first phase was anticipated as a few days alert. Most of us spent time relaxing, sleeping and watching movies. News updates were highly consumed. However, against every ones’ expectation, the lock down is extended for months. It is important for us to realize that fighting Covid-19 is going to be long way down. One should consider investing time wisely in nurturing next generation, valuing relations, caring for elders and loved ones. A video call can help spend real time with friends and family. This is time to answer those questions of our young minds which were being neglected till now due to ‘busy schedules’. Corona has indeed helped human race to take a break from long tiring race and embrace the bliss of love and attention from family and loved ones.
Reading:
One thing which I personally believe to be a major breakthrough amidst pandemic is a break from smart phones. Yes, Indeed people are getting tired of looking on to their mobiles for the first time in past few years. Covid-19 set trend – ‘Work from home’ is scaring people when they look on to their laptops. Getting back to habit of reading books is a great stress buster amidst such times. Reading makes one imagine things while visuals restrict imagination. Such thoughtfulness enhances the folds in human brain. This leads to increase mind simulation activities leading to increased memory, and energized brain functioning. On the bonus is waiving off concerns like eye irritation, neck and shoulder aches, insomnia, and fatigue. Grab a book (not e-book) be it a novel, story, self-development or anything of your interest and make the best of these times.
Cooking:
Since covid-19 is restricting consumption of outside food and limited online deliveries; people are more engaging into habit of self-cooking. It is a great achievement and a pass time for people who love to eat. Besides, catering to ones’ taste buds, the benefits of home-made food are outweighing the limitations of outside food. Covid-19 is encouraging healthy eating habits, with also people working on managing their health and weight.
Eco-Friendly:
It is surprising to see nature taking over us again. This was actually important to restore the pace of the natures’ cycle. Blue whales visible on city’s’ busiest beaches’’ penguins strolling on the airports’, and the chirping of birds in early mornings are some of the beautiful things lost due to air, noise and water pollution. It would have been unnoticed and an unsolved concern had Covid-19 not made its visit. So with the advent of virus, we are breathing fresh air and consuming purer water, living in a noise free place. It is fascinating to see the pollution content in air dropping drastically.
Alongside, gardening has been one of the most preferred activities of people amidst pandemic. DIY planters with self-grown plants are not only adding beauty to people’s balconies, terraces, front porches and backyards but also making them more sensible and responsible towards environment. We are realizing the harms of deforestation and reverting back to forestation. The concern is if this will still continue post-pandemic.
Awareness:
This has been time were wise people are already pondering over – ‘where are we actually heading’. The time cycle is reversing with ourselves going back in times. Home-made food, own-farms, family times are some of the beautiful aspects of life which were missed out by people living in cities and those born in the last 3 decades. People are getting concerned and sensible towards spending. Social distancing is replacing social statuses. Most of us were led astray towards excessive spending disguised under ‘social status’. Nevertheless, it had to come to an end, and a spree of awareness had to spread. Covid-19 has enabled it.
Notwithstanding the fact that covid-19 has claimed lives and economies, but staying stranded on this would lead us to nowhere but a prolonged state of fear. If we have to move forward, then we have to accept this state as the outcome of what we have been sowing till now. Let’s take Covid-19 as a point to stop, halt, revise ourselves and move ahead with a new start. Please feel free to share your pandemic experiences and how you lead it wisely to make stories.
